About the treatment

With scar revision, a scar can be improved through surgical correction. The treatment involves removing the existing scar and suturing the skin back together using a more precise and aesthetically adapted technique. The goal is to create a narrower, softer, and more discreet scar.
During the consultation, a careful assessment is made of the scar type, location, and skin quality to determine which treatment is most suitable.
After the treatment, you can often see a narrower and less visible scar, a smoother skin texture, and an improved skin contour. Scars continue to mature over several months and usually become less visible over time.
Treatment of thick or painful scars
Some scars can become thick, raised, or tender, known as hypertrophic scars or keloids.
In these cases, treatment can sometimes be supplemented with cortisone injections, which can help reduce the thickness of the scars, relieve itching or pain, and improve skin texture.
Laser treatment of scars
To further improve results, scar revision can sometimes be combined with laser treatment.
At Novokliniken, we use CO₂ lasers to improve skin texture and stimulate collagen formation in the scar tissue, and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) which can help reduce redness and pigment changes in scars and contribute to a more even skin tone.
Laser treatment is often used as a complement to improve skin quality after the scar has healed.
