About the treatment
Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) is an effective procedure that gives the eye area a more alert, fresh, and youthful appearance. By removing or reshaping excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids, both the appearance and, in some cases, the field of vision are improved.
The treatment begins with a thorough consultation where your needs and any previous treatments, such as fillers, are reviewed. The surgery takes approximately 1 to 2 hours and is usually performed under local anesthesia, but general anesthesia can also be offered if needed. All incisions are planned and placed with great precision to ensure discreet scars that are hidden in the natural folds of the skin.
If fillers have previously been injected in the area, for example in the tear trough region, these may need to be dissolved to optimize the surgical outcome and reduce the risk of complications such as irregularities or ectropion.
You can usually go home on the same day. Swelling and bruising are common during the first few days, but many return to work after 3 to 5 days. You will receive detailed aftercare instructions and be followed up by our team all the way to the final result.
Upper Blepharoplasty
In upper blepharoplasty, the incision is discreetly placed in the natural crease of the eyelid to minimize visible scarring. Excess skin and fat are removed to create a more open and youthful appearance. In some cases, a small amount of muscle tissue may also need to be adjusted. With modern tissue-preserving techniques, we always strive to preserve as much tissue as possible to ensure a natural and long-lasting result.
Lower Blepharoplasty
In lower blepharoplasty, the incision is placed either just below the eyelashes or on the inside of the eyelid using a transconjunctival technique, depending on the patient's needs and anatomy. Excess fat and skin can be removed or repositioned to restore a smooth and natural contour. If necessary, canthopexy can be performed to stabilize the lower eyelid and improve its position.
Correction of Ptosis (drooping eyelid muscle)
In some cases, drooping eyelids are not only due to excess skin, but to a reduced function in the muscle that lifts the eyelid, a condition known as ptosis. This can be congenital or acquired over the years and can affect both appearance and field of vision.
In cases of ptosis, the eyelid surgery is combined with a specific procedure where the lifting muscle (levator) is strengthened or shortened to restore the eyelid's natural position and function. The operation is carefully tailored to the symmetry and muscle function of the eyes to achieve both a functional and aesthetically balanced result.
Benefits of Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery can provide a more alert and youthful appearance by restoring the natural contours of the eye area.
For patients with significant excess skin, the field of vision can be substantially improved, which also provides a functional benefit.
Thanks to carefully placed precision incisions, the scars are discreet and difficult to detect.
